8/14 To Kansas City - then Topeka

This was another travel day.  We stopped by the WalMart home office/headquarters on our way out of Bentonville on the way to Kansas City.  It was as understated as most WalMart stores are.  We did see all kinds of special purpose WalMart locations around Bentonville, over the two days here. though.

Saw some interesting road signs on the way.  Don't often see my name on a street sign - with a Yield or not.  This one was in Overland Park, KS.

We also saw this one along I49 - I suppose Marvin Gaye used this Missouri town for inspiration.

Since we were in more developed areas, there were actually a couple of quilt shops open on Sunday.  This one was in Kansas City, MO.

This one was a bout 25 minutes away in Overland Park, KS.

Knowing we want to visit the Homestead National Monument in Beatrice, NE, tomorrow, we decided to proceed to Topeka today, then travel mostly north to Beatrice, probably staying near Lincoln tomorrow night.

This also provided the chance to get some laundry done - not sure if this will be the only time during the trip.  While Kathy stayed near the washer to claim it when another guest's laundry was done, I found a BBQ place that offered take-out.  By now we pretty well know what we want, so I was able to go pick up dinner and bring it back to eat at the motel.

I didn't realize this was part of a regional chain.  It was popular with customers coming in steadily while I waited for the take-out.  As you can see some of the signs are a little folksy.

There are locations of this chain in both Lincoln and Omaha, so we may eat there again.  Prices and food were good.

On to the Homestead National Monument tomorrow.
