We started the day capitalizing on a relatively large metropolitan area with 4 quilt shops participating in the Row by Row campaign that we visited first thing.
After hearing about a quilt museum in Lincoln from a manager at the motel during the manager's reception last night, we looked into the International Quilt Study Center & Museum on the edge of the University of Nebraska's east campus. We spent some time there, too.
This is a relatively new building (2008) that exhibits some of its 4,500 quilts.

Its logo was an interesting arrangement of pins.

This was a set of quilts - I thought the figures looked like Legos.

One had Kathy's favorite irises.

This celebrated women of note in history.

And we thought perhaps some of my old ties could be used for something like this.
There was a small exhibit of thread paintings - amazing details.

The featured exhibit at this time was quilts from southwest China.

We also found we had time to visit the Holy Family Shrine along I80 between Lincoln and Omaha. Kathy had seen it recently on a list of most beautiful places in each of the 50 states - this was the one for Nebraska.

We noted that the grounds were different, too. The road back to it was a 1 mile gravel road over rolling hills, so we had to go slowly.
Then Kathy, due to the hilly area, an unusual three level picnic area adjacent to the parking area.
We then noted "swarms" of small blue butterflies that would seemingly all move to other flowers simultaneously. (see the three in red circles)
The site overlooks I-80 and the Platte River in the background of this photo taken from the grounds of the Shrine.
It was designed to use geothermal heating and cooling. The visitor center, through which the chapel is accessed, is covered in earth so you only see the door of the building - similar to the entrance and visitor center at Longwood as seen from inside the property.
The chapel is 49 feet tall with lots of glass walls.

There is an etched glass panel over the crucifix behind the altar.

It is also impressive when seen from outside ...

.... made even more so with the large (about 20 feet tall) crucifix outside of the chapel. These both are visible from I-80.

Finally when we got to Omaha, we found another BBQ joint two blocks from the motel. Again, good food, reasonable prices, great people - and another t-shirt for me.
Tomorrow we expect to visit the local zoo - recommended to us by a fellow VA retiree who had traveled to Omaha and enjoyed the zoo. Then it will be on to the reunion hotel in downtown Omaha.
